SUPPORTING THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST
Tamworth Family Support Services (TFSS) are accepting donations of gaming consoles, games, and board games to keep clients and their families entertained while receiving support services.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson thanked TFSS for the work they do to support families in their time of need.
“TFSS have been working to support those in need for more than 30 years. They now support communities right across the New England with a team of dedicated, caring support workers, striving to ensure young people get the best possible start in life,” Mr Anderson said.
“We need to do everything we can to support children and young people leaving a domestic violence or homelessness situation and TFSS are on the front line of helping people who are going through the toughest of times.
“It is important that we support these families, keeping them active, supported, and entertained while they get back on their feet.
“We can all help in some small way. Many of us have cupboard filled with old board games that have been slowly gathering dust over the years. Many of us have been left with a video game console or a stack of games after our kids lost interest and moved on.
“TFSS are looking to find happy homes for unwanted games and are ready to take your call should you have something you would like to donate. The games could be sent to one of their many facilities like their domestic violence refuges or they could be provided to a family who are starting over.”
TFSS Homelessness and Domestic Violence Manager Lynda Townsend said these types of games have great way of bringing families together.
“Research shows that both video and board games have significant social and cognitive benefits, and may help bring families together,” Ms Townsend said.
“If you have anything you would like to donate, I encourage you to give TFSS a call first to see if they can find it a happy home,” Mr Anderson concluded.
