STATEMENT: INQUIRY INTO GREYHOUND RACING INDUSTRY
The NSW Opposition welcomes the independent inquiry into Greyhound Racing NSW announced today.
Although I haven’t seen the full report, the parts that have been released show there are concerns around some of the practices and processes that are taking place.
The inquiry will examine these issues and I look forward to seeing the findings.
It is extremely important the industry is able to operate in a competitive, responsible, and sustainable way and the former Liberal and Nationals Government took significant steps in this space.
This included establishing the Greyhound Welfare Integrity Commission (GWIC), establishing rehoming programs, funding major track upgrades across NSW, and whole of life tracking for registered greyhounds.
It’s deeply concerning over the past 15 months the industry appears to have gone backwards and the Minister needs to come clean about what has gone wrong and what he’s going to do to fix it.
