ROADMAP FOR GAMING REFORM REPORT
The Minns Labor Government is showing no interest to deliver the gaming reform agenda it promised before the 2023 state election, and the lack of urgency is risking problem gamblers and leaving the industry without any certainty.
After 20 months of rhetoric, delays, inaction, and distraction, all the government has said is it hasn’t formed a response to the Independent Panel on Gaming Reform’s roadmap report.
Although we don’t know the full details of the report, we do know very few people participated in the cashless gaming trial.
During Budget Estimates it was revealed only 243 people signed up, as of September, and less than half of them actually used the technology.
Other feedback I’ve received is that the trial was also too restrictive, and the technology was too clunky, raising concerns the data would be largely unusable.
Given the incredibly low participation rate, there’s no faith from Industry that this bungled trial would be able to inform an appropriate roadmap. In fact, the panel has recommended another expert panel.
Chris Minns promised the Government’s cashless gaming trial would provide the path forward for NSW, but all he’s delivered is an A-grade flop.
I am calling on his Government to urgently release the results of this trial, and it’s intention on the 30 recommendations from the report to give industry and the community the confidence they need.
