OLD MONEY FOR NEW PROJECTS

Builders, plumbers, plasterers, concreters, electricians, and other local tradies will be busy in 2025 thanks to strong public infrastructure investment by the former Coalition Government.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the year would see major infrastructure projects hit new milestones, keeping the local economy thriving.

“I’ve worked hard to keep our region forward by focusing on the major infrastructure projects that are important to our communities,” Mr Anderson said.

“Investment in infrastructure is important because it creates local jobs and puts food on the table for local families, while also resulting in state-of-the-art, modern facilities that benefit our communities.

“By working hard prior to the last election and locking away funding, it ensured the local economy would continue to grow despite a lack of vision and any new investment from the Labor government.”

Projects funded by the former Coalition Government include:

  • $56.2m new Tamworth Mental Health Unit
  • $53m Gunnedah Hospital redevelopment
  • $21m expanded Nioka Palliative Care Unit
  • $26.6m Coalition funding for the UNE Tamworth project ($36.6m project)
  • $14.3m Coalition funding for the Tamworth Regional Skywalk ($18m project)
  • $15m Coalition funding for the Tamworth Aquatic Centre ($45m project)
  • $6.6m Quirindi Aquatic Centre
  • $5m Coalition funding for the Port Stephens Cutting upgrade ($25m project)
  • $11.68m Coalition funding for the Goonoo Goonoo Road duplication ($58.4m project)

“This strong investment is keeping our region moving forward, and I am proud to have been a part of a government that planned for the future and funded projects that our community needs and deserves,” Mr Anderson added.

“These projects will keep our region moving forward this year, but I am deeply concerned that the Labor Government has added nothing new to our region’s infrastructure pipeline, despite almost two years in government.

“Instead, Labor have cut funding to the regions, while spending big in Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong. Labor does not support the regions, and I’ll continue to call them out for a complete lack of vision and investment in our region.”
