Namoi River Crossing
In early 2020, the NSW Government provided Tamworth Regional Council with significant funding to build a new bridge across the might Namoi River in Manilla.
$7,896,500 was provided under the Restart NSW Growing Local Economies Fund to improve freight connectivity north of Tamworth while growing the local economy.
The existing, heritage listed Manilla Bridge has served the community well over the years, but it too tight to accomodate the heavy freight traffic that comes through the town. 985,000 tonnes of freight is driven over the Namoi every year and we needed to support that industry.
The new bridge is a full four metres wider than the original brige, providing safer journeys across the Namoi for tourists, freight operators and locals alike.
