Tamworth needs a Mental Health Unit that will service the entire New England North West into the future. That’s why the NSW Government has committed to building a better Banksia.

The project is the first of its kind in New South Wales. It is being designed in partnership with local community advocates the Mental Health Carers Association to ensure that it meets the needs of those who have experience with mental health.

The 2022/23 NSW Budget brought news the community had been calling for with confirmation that child and adolescent beds and services will be included in the new unit. 

The budget for the project is now $58.2 million and construction began in March 2024 with an anticipated completion in 2025.
