ANDERSON PRESSES EDUCATION MINSITER ON PLANS FOR A GROWING TAMWORTH
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has written to the Minister for Education about the Government’s plans to accommodate for a growing student population in Tamworth.
Mr Anderson highlighted issues to the Minster to ensure she was aware of Tamworth’s rapid growth and the need to plan for the next decade.
“We know that we live in a growing community with more and more young families choosing to build their lives in Tamworth and place their kids in our school system,” Mr Anderson said.
“That’s why it’s important that we plan, a process that I began last year, asking the department to do the necessary background work to build a new school in the Moore Creek area.
“We’ve already completed major upgrades to schools like Tamworth Public School and Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School. We need to plan for our long-term future, and I’ve asked the Minister to update our community on their plans for Tamworth.”
Mr Anderson asked the following Questions on Notice:
“In relation to public school infrastructure in the Tamworth electorate:
1. Can the minister provide an update on the current capacity of public schools in Tamworth when compared to the current student population?
2. What is the government's plan to meet the growing demand for public education in Tamworth?
3. Is the Government planning to explore infrastructure options in Tamworth to ensure that schools do not expand beyond capacity over the coming years?”
“I’m looking forward to a quick response from the Minister and I’ll be sure to provide that response to the community when I receive it,” Mr Anderson added.
