ANDERSON MAKES PROGRESS ON REGIONAL PLAN
The 2025/26 NSW Budget has delivered a mixed bag for community projects in the Tamworth Electorate.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said while the budget delivered on some of the key parts of his plan for the region, more work needed to be done on other areas and he would keep pushing the Labor Government to deliver for the future.
“It was critical that funding for important community projects were included in the budget like the Tamworth Mental Health Unit, Gunnedah Hospital, the upgraded Nioka palliative care unit, and Goonoo Goonoo Road.
“I have been fighting hard for funding for a number of projects across our region and it was good to see them in the budget, including:”
- $11.6m ($53m) Gunnedah Hospital
- $3m Tamworth Industrial Water Recycling
- $21m Nioka palliative care unit
- Funding to support the Tamworth Country Music Festival – Hallmark status
- $1.7m Social Housing
- $2m ($54.4m) Goonoo Goonoo Road
- $4.5M ($25m) Port Stephens Cutting
- $1.3m Keep on Track youth program
- $26m University for Tamworth
- Upgrades to Tamworth High, Woolomin Public School, and Niangala Public School
- $3m Agricultural research
- Werris Creek Fire Station
“My plan for our electorate will take more than this budget to deliver, so I’ll be keeping the pressure on, pushing the Labor Government to do better, for example on crime prevention, I’ve been calling for greater resources for police but there was nothing new in this budget.
“There is more work to do - Labor has pulled funding away from the regions and diverted it to the city, and that is unacceptable.
“It’s important to make sure our voice is heard and to continue fighting for the things that are important to us in our region.”
